During the holidays, my family has had a tradition ever since I was a child. We meet at a family members house and bring home made dishes for all of us to share and enjoy. Usually someone brings a different dish every year, but my family specifically requested that I bring my special homemade green bean casserole. Ever since I started making this dish, they’ve begged for my recipe, and of course, I share them the recipe which I just added bacon and parmesan cheese to the classic recipe of green bean casserole! Today, I’m going to be sharing this special holiday twist that I call the Cheesy Bacon Green Bean Casserole. Below you will find the three basic ingredients I use to make the green bean casserole that I buy at Walmart and hopefully you will add your own twist to it if you want to. There is no doubt that your family will love it!
The first and most important ingredient is a can of Campbell’s® Condensed Cream of Mushroom Soup. Although it’s the most important and the key to your dish, it is also the cheapest! You can find this in this soup aisle at Walmart for less than a dollar. That’s quite the bargain if you ask me. This serves as the perfect base for my special green bean casserole. The best way to describe its texture is creamy, hence the name cream of mushroom. The flavor is like no other, beating every other base I tried for this dish. What’s also awesome about it is that I can whip it up with whatever meal I’m making in just 30 minutes! Sometimes, my daughter refuses to eat vegetables. She doesn’t like how they taste. She wouldn’t touch a green bean or mushroom to save her life until I introduced her to my tasty green bean casserole with a twist. Now, I add it to almost every meal that permits it included regular old rice and even certain types of noodles!
The other two ingredients I bought at Walmart and used to make my green bean casserole was Del Monte® Green Beans and French’s® Crispy Fried Onions. These two serve as the perfect compliments to the already great tasting cream of mushroom base. You really can’t go wrong with either one! Now that you know what you need to make the casserole, I should also tell you that it never really got interesting until I added my own twist to the mix! Before, they never cared whether I made it or not, but after adding my own twist, my family asks me to make it every single year. I don’t plan on stopping this holiday tradition with my family anytime soon and I plan on bringing this Cheesy Bacon Green Bean Casserole until I come up with a new twist!
